Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ounces (50 ml) Malibu Original coconut rum
- 2 ounces (50 ml) cranberry juice (sweetened cranberry juice or cranberry cocktail is ideal)
- 1 ounce (30 ml) pineapple juice (fresh or store-bought)
- Ice (crushed or cubed)
- Garnishes:
- Pineapple slice
- Lime wedge or twist
- Maraschino cherry
- Optional: Orange slice, fresh cranberries, edible flowers, or mint for decoration
Instructions
- Chill your glass: For optimal results, pre-chill a highball glass in the freezer for 10-15 minutes.
- Layer the drink:
- Pour the Malibu coconut rum into the glass.
- Hold a bar spoon with its back facing up and slowly pour pineapple juice over the back of the spoon into the glass.
- Add cranberry juice last, again using the spoon for a slow pour to achieve the layered effect.
- Ice: Fill the glass with ice—crushed ice for a more diluted, refreshing drink, or cubed ice to maintain temperature longer.
- Garnish: Add a pineapple slice, a lime wedge or twist, and a maraschino cherry on top for a colorful and tropical presentation.
Notes
- Sweetness Adjustment: If you prefer a sweeter cocktail, use cranberry cocktail juice instead of pure cranberry juice. A splash of fresh lime juice can help balance the sweetness if desired.
- Strength Adjustment: For a stronger drink, increase the amount of Malibu coconut rum (up to 3 ounces). For a lighter version, decrease the rum to 1 ounce and increase the juice ratio.
- Preventing Separation: Shake the pineapple juice well before using, and ensure all ingredients are chilled to prevent separation.
- Ice Tips: Use large, clear ice cubes for slower melting and a better presentation.
